Product and summaries
Sumzy reads your existing product reviews and generates a concise AI summary for the product page. It adds an overview; it does not replace your reviews. Shoppers get the key insight without reading every review. You keep all your reviews exactly as they are.
Yes. Sumzy reads the reviews you have already collected on your store. There is nothing to migrate or re-import. You do not need to change how you collect reviews.
reads your native WooCommerce product reviews.
reads them through a supported review app.
Five reviews. Below that the widget shows a short low-signal card telling the shopper there are not enough reviews yet, rather than a summary built on thin data. That is a status, not an error. Once a product crosses the threshold, a summary generates automatically in the background.
Sumzy reads a sample rather than every review. The sample is drawn across your whole review history, not just the newest few. It follows the mix of praise and complaint your store actually has, and prefers the newer reviews inside that mix. How many reviews go into one summary is a per-plan ceiling: up to 50 on Essentials, up to 200 on Professional, up to 500 on Business. Most products have well under 50 reviews, so on a typical product every plan reads everything you have. A point only one or two reviewers raise does not appear in the summary at all.
Yes, always. Complaints appear next to the praise, in proportion to how often reviewers raise them, so a common issue reads as common and a rare one reads as rare. A point needs 3 or more reviewers before it appears at all, which keeps one bad day out of your summary and a genuinely recurring problem in it. Showing what customers liked alongside what to consider is what makes a store feel worth buying from.
Yes, and it is on by default. When a product's reviews change, Sumzy regenerates its summary in the background, and a regular sweep keeps the rest of your catalog current. You control the two exceptions: turn automatic regeneration off in settings and nothing regenerates on its own, and a summary you have edited and pinned keeps your wording until you regenerate it.
Yes, on the Professional and Business plans. You can read every summary before it goes live, edit the text, approve it, regenerate it, or hide it from the admin panel. The AI can occasionally misread a product's feedback, so you stay in control. The Essentials plan shows summaries automatically without an approval step.
Platforms and compatibility
Yes. The same summary engine powers both. Plan names, prices, and the trial are the same on both platforms. Install, billing, and placement follow each platform's own conventions.

Sumzy supports 43 languages for the summary text and the widget labels, including European, RTL, CJK, and Indic scripts. The summary is always generated in the language of the product's reviews. Per-shopper multilingual, where each visitor sees the summary in their own language, is a Business feature.
No. Sumzy runs the AI itself. There is no OpenAI or Anthropic account to create, no API key to manage, and no separate usage bill to track. You pay for Sumzy and it handles everything.
Performance, privacy and trust
No. The widget reads the saved local summary with no page-load AI call, so product pages stay fast even when generation is temporarily unavailable. Shoppers always see the last saved summary. Your store never depends on Sumzy's servers being reachable at the moment someone loads a product page.
Review text and ratings only. Reviewer names, email addresses, IP addresses, and order, billing, or shipping data are never sent to Sumzy. Summaries are generated from what reviewers wrote, not from who they are.
No raw review text is kept after the summary is written. Sumzy processes the text to generate the summary and does not build a database of your customers' reviews. See our privacy policy for the full data flow and AI sub-processor details. It covers both platforms, with a WooCommerce and Shopify toggle.
Yes. Every summary carries a clear, non-removable AI disclosure. The original reviews remain displayed below the summary. Shoppers can see exactly what the summary is based on and can read the full reviews themselves.
No. Sumzy has no positive-only mode and no setting, tier, or toggle that filters complaints out, and it never will. Sumzy does not change your reviews at all: it adds a summary above them and leaves every review on the page for shoppers to read. A complaint that 3 or more reviewers raise surfaces in the summary Sumzy generates, however many positive reviews sit around it. Editing a summary is for wording, not for burying real feedback.
It is harder than it looks. A topic needs at least 3 distinct reviewers to appear at all, so a single planted review cannot introduce a theme or bury an existing one. Sumzy treats review text as data, not instructions, so wording designed to steer the summary is ignored. Sumzy samples across the star ratings your reviews actually have rather than taking only the most recent ones, so older criticism still reaches the summary when a run of new five-star reviews arrives.
Sumzy leads with what drives the buying decision: whether the product works, how it holds up, whether it fits or matches the description, and whether it delivers value. Topics appear only when at least 3 distinct reviewers mention them, ranked by how often they come up. Recent reviews carry more weight, so an old complaint that recent buyers no longer raise fades rather than following a product forever. Praise and complaints both show at their true weight, in proportion to how often reviewers mention them.
Plans and billing
The full features of whichever plan you choose, up to 1,000 summaries, for 14 days. You can cancel any time before the trial ends at no cost.
a card is required at sign-up and is not charged during the trial.
there is no card to enter. You approve the subscription in your Shopify admin and any charge appears on your Shopify bill.
You are charged when the 14-day trial ends, unless you cancel before then. Displayed prices exclude VAT; your Merchant of Record adds applicable tax at checkout.
billing is handled by Freemius.
billing is handled by Shopify.
Both are available. Annual billing costs two months less than twelve monthly payments. You can move up or down a plan at any time, and the change takes effect once your biller confirms it. Moving down a plan deletes nothing: your summaries keep showing, and any setting the lower plan does not include is kept for you. It stops taking effect while you are on the lower plan, so a custom look or disclaimer stops showing on the storefront, and it starts working again if you move back up.
change or cancel from the Freemius account portal.
change or cancel from the Sumzy app in your Shopify admin, which opens Shopify's own plan and checkout pages.
Cancelling stops future charges, and your summaries stay live for the period you paid for. After a full lapse, generation stops and the widget stops displaying, and nothing is deleted: if you resubscribe, your summaries come back and generation resumes.
your summaries stay in your site's database unless you uninstall with the remove-data option enabled.
cancelling deletes nothing, but uninstalling the app is different. Shopify removes the metafield your theme reads and sends us a shop erasure request about 48 hours later, after which your summaries are permanently deleted.
Yes, on your first paid charge. If your trial converts and Sumzy isn't right for you, email hello@sumzy.io within 14 days of that first charge and we refund it in full, on a monthly or an annual plan. Renewal charges are generally non-refundable; cancel before the next renewal instead and you keep access through the period you paid for.
Freemius is the Merchant of Record and issues the refund.
Shopify is the Merchant of Record, so the refund is requested and credited through Shopify under Shopify's billing policies.

Comparing Sumzy
Sumzy does not collect reviews. It summarizes the ones you already have, on any review platform you are already using. The big review collectors treat AI summary as a paid add-on to their core product. Sumzy is built around the summary from the start, and it does not make you manage an AI provider.
Most review apps treat AI summary as a locked add-on: one language, no editing, regenerated on a fixed cycle. Sumzy is built around the summary from the start: 43 languages out of the box, a merchant review and approval workflow so you can adjust wording before it goes live, structured aspect chips that name recurring themes rather than a single prose blob, and automatic refresh whenever new reviews arrive. Summaries save to your own store so the widget is fast even when the backend is down. See our comparison guides for WooCommerce and Shopify for a side-by-side view.
