Refund Policy

Effective: 2026-06-05 · Last updated: 2026-07-21

This policy states Sumzy's own refund / money-back position on both platforms Sumzy is sold on. Payment, invoicing, VAT/sales tax, and the mechanics of issuing any refund are handled by the Merchant of Record for your platform, under that company's own policies:

  • WooCommerce: Freemius, Inc. as Merchant of Record.
  • Shopify: Shopify as Merchant of Record, through Shopify App Pricing.

This document is the Sumzy-side guarantee that the checkout surfaces and that the Terms of Service §8 references.

1. In short

Sumzy gives you two layers of protection when you try it:

  • A 14-day free trial that does not charge you during the trial. Cancel before it ends and you pay nothing (see §2).
  • A 14-day money-back position on your first paid charge after the trial converts, so you can change your mind even after the first payment (see §3).

Renewals after the first charge are handled by cancellation rather than refund (see §4), which is the standard, sustainable approach for a subscription product. This is a commercial guarantee offered in addition to, and without reducing, any mandatory consumer-law rights you have in your country (for example EU/UK distance-selling withdrawal rights). Where a statutory right gives you more than this policy, that statutory right applies.

2. The free trial is your main evaluation window

  • Sumzy offers a 14-day free trial on both platforms. You are not charged during the trial.
  • On WooCommerce, the trial is started at Freemius checkout and requires a payment card, which is not charged during the trial. On Shopify, there is no card to enter for Sumzy: you approve the subscription in your Shopify admin and any charge is billed to your Shopify account and appears on your Shopify bill.
  • The trial automatically converts to a paid subscription at the end of the 14 days unless you cancel before it ends.
  • During the trial a per-account generation cap applies (server-side), so the trial is a genuine evaluation, not unlimited free usage.
  • Cancel any time during the trial and you pay nothing. This is the simplest way to avoid a charge entirely.

3. 14-day money-back position on the first paid charge

  • If your trial converts and you decide within 14 days of that first paid charge that Sumzy isn't right for you, contact us (see §7) and we will refund that first charge in full.
  • This applies on either platform. It covers the first charge only, on either a monthly or an annual plan. For an annual plan, the refund is the full first-year amount if requested within those 14 days.
  • We may decline refunds in cases of abuse or fraud (for example, repeated trial-then-refund cycling across accounts, or chargeback abuse).
  • How the money reaches you. On WooCommerce, the refund is issued through Freemius to your original payment method; timing follows Freemius's and your bank's processing times. On Shopify, we request the refund of the app charge through Shopify, and Shopify credits it under Shopify's billing policies; timing and method are Shopify's, not ours.

4. Renewals

  • Subscriptions renew automatically (monthly or annually) until you cancel.
  • Renewal charges are generally non-refundable. The remedy for not wanting to continue is to cancel before the next renewal. When you cancel, you keep access through the end of the period you have already paid for, and you are not charged again.
  • We may, at our discretion and as a goodwill matter, refund or pro-rate a recent renewal; for example, an annual renewal you tell us about shortly after it charged and before meaningful use of the new term. This is goodwill, not an entitlement, and does not change the rule above.
  • Annual vs monthly: the same rule applies to both. Because an annual renewal is a larger single charge, we encourage you to set a reminder before your annual renewal date, or switch to monthly, if you are unsure about continuing.

5. How to cancel

  • WooCommerce. Cancel at any time from the account portal Freemius provides, or by contacting us (§7).
  • Shopify. Cancel or change your plan from the Sumzy app in your Shopify admin, which opens Shopify's own plan and checkout pages, or uninstall the app. Cancelling and uninstalling both stop future charges.
  • Cancellation stops future charges. While your subscription remains active, including the period you have already paid for after cancelling, your summaries continue displaying normally and a temporary backend outage will not remove them, because your store renders from a copy it already holds. Once the subscription fully lapses, the storefront stops displaying summaries and our backend stops generating new ones. Consistent with the Terms (§7, §8).
  • What happens to your summaries. On WooCommerce, a lapse does not delete anything: your summaries stay in your site's database and reappear if you resubscribe, unless you uninstall the plugin with the "remove data on uninstall" option enabled. On Shopify, a lapse likewise deletes nothing while the app stays installed, and your summaries reappear if you resubscribe. Uninstalling the Shopify app is different from cancelling: Shopify removes the Sumzy block from your theme, so the storefront stops rendering summaries, and about 48 hours after uninstall Shopify sends us the shop erasure request, after which your shop's summaries are permanently deleted from our systems.

6. Merchant of Record

  • WooCommerce: Freemius, Inc. Freemius processes your payment, issues your invoice, collects and remits applicable VAT/sales tax, and executes refunds to your payment method. Your purchase is also subject to Freemius's checkout terms.
  • Shopify: Shopify. The subscription is sold through Shopify App Pricing, so Shopify charges your Shopify account, issues your billing records, handles applicable taxes, and processes refunds, cancellations, proration, and payment disputes under Shopify's billing policies. Your purchase is also subject to Shopify's own terms. Sumzy is not the seller of record for the Shopify subscription, and no Shopify charge is handled by Freemius.
  • In both cases this Sumzy policy sets the circumstances in which a refund is given, and the Merchant of Record performs the mechanics under its own policies.
  • For payment disputes or chargebacks, the Merchant of Record's processes apply. Please contact us first (§7); we can usually resolve a billing question faster than a chargeback.

7. How to request a refund or get help

  • Email hello@sumzy.io with your account email, the platform you are on, and your order/invoice or charge reference.
  • We aim to respond within 2 business days.
  • WooCommerce merchants can also use the refund and cancellation controls in the Freemius account portal. Shopify merchants can manage the subscription from the Sumzy app in Shopify admin.
